Summary: A coincidence is like bumping into an old friend at the grocery store when you’re both reaching for the same bag of organic spinach. Random, curious, and a little funny. Synchronicity, though, that’s a whole different ball game. It’s when life’s things come together like a cosmic stage manager with perfect timing. Read on.
Dear Dr. Sylvia,
I met an old friend at a local restaurant the other day, who told me he was going to switch jobs and move back to his hometown from childhood.
Yikes! I was thinking about doing the same thing. Except his hometown is in the Midwest and mine is in the Northeast.
I know you are not a psychic. However, I wonder if this is a sign, as many say, from the universe to get packing and get going?
Signed,
Wants a sign
Synchronicities Can Open New Doors For Amazing Opportunities
Dear Wants a Sign,
Yup, we all do.
We all would like some clear direction about next steps.
Look, there are no easy answers.
You need to see what happens, listen to your head (intellect), heart (emotions), and gut (intuition). Then sit quietly, and when they are aligned, move forward
For example, that same “chance” meeting at the restaurant ends up reconnecting you to someone who introduces you to the exact business partner, coach, or opportunity you’ve been searching for. Not random. Not luck.
Coincidence entertains. Synchronicity instructs.
One makes you chuckle, the other makes you pause and think, “Oh, this is bigger than me.”
Pay attention to the synchronicities. They’re life’s way of nudging you toward your next chapter.
Here is one of my personal stories that was life-changing.
I was working as a family therapist and had an evening program for parents whose adolescent children were frustrating them.
The room was packed. At the end of the evening, a man approached me and asked for a few minutes of my time.
I thought he wanted to discuss a son or daughter.
Instead, he said, “Will you come work with my Senior Leadership Team?”
The question was literally out in left field.
My simple response was”Why?”
He said,“They’re fighting.”
To which I replied “So what!.“
He persisted, “Look, you are working with families and helping people get along better. They need to get along better.”
Pay Attention, Synchronicities Can Change Your Life
This was a synchronicity that changed my entire career.
I was curious enough to meet with his team.
And while not a formal family, they were people who shared a common desire to help their organization succeed.
I took the chance, and yes, my entire career changed to workplace leadership, team building, and conflict resolution.
That man has long since retired. That chance evening meeting, that synchronistic meeting, changed the trajectory of my life.
Pay attention. These magic moments happen to all of us. Be one who listens to the glimmers of head, heart, and gut. Then take the chance put in front of you.
To your success,
Sylvia Lafair
